As a felony prosecutor Mr. Dirmann represented the State of Florida in hundreds of felony cases including sexual battery, robbery, burglary, grand theft, forgery, and drug cases. Mr. Dirmann went into private law practice in Sarasota, Florida, in 1973 and has been continuously engaged in a criminal defense practice which has served thousands of clients and in which Mr. Dirmann has defended clients charged with murder, manslaughter, vehicular homicide, sexual battery, robbery, kidnapping, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, burglary, fraud, drug crimes, DUI, and many other criminal charges.
In 1987 Mr. Dirmann was in the first group of Florida lawyers to be certified by The Florida Bar as possessing special skill and competence to qualify as a Florida Bar Board Certified Criminal Trial Lawyer. Mr. Dirmann has been a Board Certified Criminal Trial Lawyer for more than 21 years.

Mr. Dirmann was a lieutenant serving as a battalion communication officer with Fourth Battalion 11th Marine Regiment at Chu Lai, Vietnam. Mr. Dirmann was also selected to head a special detachment of U.S. Marines who were assigned to work with and support the Second Republic of Korea Marine Brigade at Quang Ngai, Vietnam. During his tour of duty in Vietnam Mr. Dirmann participated in 16 combat operations.
